Could the 2 meter Monarch be used with electrics?
Is there any plans for such a plane? Could one just
buy a wing?
Aerodynamically it should work fine, and the nose is close enough to round
that it could probably be cut off and matched to a spinner fairly easily.
The problem is that the fuselage is probably way too slim to allow
sufficient room for batteries, controller, motor, etc.. We've discussed
designing a new fuselage for it like we did for the hlg Monarchs when we
created the Monarch 'E', but it's likely to be a while before we can fit
that into our development schedule. It may be possible to alter the
existing fuselage by cutting out the bottom under the wing and fitting a
deeper fiberglass "pan", but that would take MAJOR surgery. Not impossible,
but definitely a major modification.
We can sell just wings, but we discourage it for purposes other than the
repair of an existing Monarch. Our models are designed as carefully
balanced complete systems, and if you take just a part of that system out
of context, and fit it to some other model, the results could be
unpredictable, possibly horrible. That would make you frustrated, maybe mad
at us, and it wouldn't do our model's reputation any good either! That
said, as long as you understand that it's not fair to hold US responsible
if YOUR experiment doesn't work, we can certainly sell you just a wing.
Give Joe a call, to work out the details.
