The following question came from Gordon Braun-Woodbury " )

I've just successfully converted my Chrysalis 2M to electric. The setup is a Graupner 2.8:1 planetary gearbox, Speed 600BB motor and 12x10 prop with seven 1300 mah cells. No complaints at all about flight performance. My only problem is that, in order to balance the plane, the battery has to be positioned directly under the spoiler servo, which doesn't leave any room for its operation.

Any thoughts on how I might rectify this (other than adding a whole bunch of nose weight and moving the battery back?

Yes, the same thing that I'm planning to recommend for the standard way of actuating the spoilers in the next revision of the kit. Use two small servos (HS-55's should be perfect!), one at each spoiler, and run their cables in to a "Y" connector at the center section. Cut away the covering on the underside of the wing between the main and rear spars, in the bay where each spoiler horn is. Mount a 1/16 ply plate to the underside of the spoiler bay aft edge and the upper rear spar cap, just below the upper surface covering. Make a short pushrod to couple the servo to the spoiler horn, set the servo in the "spoiler closed" position, hold the spoiler shut, and mount the servo to the underside of the plate. Run the servo wires in to the center, patch the covering on the bottom, and you're all set!
