The following question came from Jim

Hi, I was wonder if you could give me the spec for the hitech 60 servo you recomend for your Chrysalis-2m sailplane, ...

From : Don Stackhouse

Actually, we recommend something more like the HS-81 or HS-85 for the tail controls.

The HS-60 (14 grams weight, 15.4 oz.-in. torque on 4.8 volts) will handle the flight loads IF you do a good job on your control linkages so you don't waste any torque on unnecessary friction. However, the tail controls are the ones most likely to get beat up during things like ground loops and bad landings, and the HS-81's (17.2 grams, 32 oz.-in. torque) and HS-85's (19.3 grams, 42 oz.-in. torque), especially the metal geared versions, handle abuse much better.

For the spoilers you need something thin (ideally about 3/8" or less, although 7/16" doesn't make too much of a bump on the underside of the wing), but torque isn't a major issue. A Hitec HS-50 will work, although the little GWS Pico servos (or their clones) are thinner and therefore fit better.

You will need two of the big servos for the tail controls, and two of the little thin servos for the spoilers.
