What's the best (lightest ?) iron on covering for a Chrysalis?
From : Don Stackhouse
Bill, while some folks have been successful with the lightweight coverings,
we've received enough reports of flutter that we are now recommending only
regular weight coverings for the Chrysalis, such as Monocote, and regular
weight Ultracoat and Oracover. The Chrysalis is plenty light already, so the
small difference in weight is not that significant ( I can't believe I said
that!).
The Chrysalis relies on the covering for torsional stiffness. We could add
torsional stiffness other ways, such as the traditional balsa sheeting on the
leading edge, but this would add weight and cost, and make the model much
more difficult to build, particularly for beginners. Extra spars such as the
turbulator spars used on other models would add drag, weight and cost ( the
Chrysalis airfoils do not need turbulation). In this case a regular weight
covering on a simple open structure is a better way to go.
