The following question came from Bob Slater: "bobslater@qwest.net" bobslater@qwest.net )

I plan to build a Chrysalis 2M, and power it with a Norvel .061 U/C engine.

Don't need throttle, just fly it up until I run out of fuel. Will use 270 MAH Batt. Hitec 555 Rx, and 2 JR241 Servos. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to radio location, prop size, thrust settings, engine location fore and aft, eg. thrust washer at front of nose vs. 1" back, etc

C/G will be your biggest concern. I'd recommend building and covering the whole airplane up to just ahead of the leading edge of the wing, except leave the nose block off, and don't make the hatch cover yet. Install the servos and control linkages, but don't install the Rx and battery yet.

Turn the model upside down and do a C/G check, laying the motor, fuel tank (those Norvel engine mounts with the built-in tank might be just the ticket here), Rx and battery on the upturned belly of the model. Find the arrangement of them that gives you the right C/G, and use that to determine where to locate the firewall. I'm guessing it probably will be about 2.5" to 3.5" aft of the F1 bulkhead. Saw the nose off at that point, with about 5 deg. downthrust and 2 deg. right thrust.

Make a firewall from 1/8" birch ply to fit that location, epoxy it in place, then reinforce the corners all around, inside and out, with glass tape and epoxy. Make a cover above the fuel tank (don't forget a little strap of glass across its trailing edge and down the fuselage sides), and a removeable hatch between it and F2. Install the rest of the radio gear (make sure to pad everything well, this model will now have one of those noisy, smelly, violently vibrating things on its nose), cover the nose including the firewall, screw on the engine, and proceed with the rest of setup and test flying!
