The following question came from Gil Scott .

Can I clean the dust that has accumulated on my composite wing?

I have a Monarch D that I am beginning to get sorted out here in CA. Before the rains came the flying field was quite dusty. The wings immediately picked up slotchy dirt patterns that will not wipe off (dry or with water). Is this because of the pinholes in the covering? Any ideas for a cleaning?

Gil, I'm afraid you're right, it's dust in the pores of the fiberglass. The bad news is that it's nearly impossible to remove, other than maybe using a roller and a can of paint! The good news is that it has virtually no measureable effect on weight or performance. Maybe you could rub some more dust on the rest of the wing just to even out the color? (just kidding)

We could gel-coat the skins during layup to eliminate the pores, but this would make the model heavier, and also make the kit more expensive due to the added materials and labor. We figured that you would rather have a model that flies better.

Good luck with your new Monarch, and please keep in touch!

Also, have a fun and safe holiday!
