Recomended servo size for the Monarch D?
I have searched and searched but I can't seem to find the
recomended servo size for the Monarch D. I am going to order
the glider and want to have the correct size eqpt.

Thanks Jim--sounds like something we need to add to our website!!
The D is actually fairly flexible on equipment options. For minimum weight
use a 110mah pack, the new S-80 or Cirrus CS 20 BB servos(.33ozs.), and one
of the currently available micro receivers(Hitec 535 less case, one of the
DAD's, etc). The Hitec HS-60 is also a good choice, just SLIGHTLY heavier.
The fuse is actually large enough for the "mini"-sized servos, 270mah pack,
and many of the standard size receivers. Although there is room for this
equipment, the extra weight is a definite disadvantage in light conditions(it
increases rate of sink significantly), and therefore defeats one of the main
design goals of the ship.
For a really light ship, make a 4 cell pack from the cells of an Eveready 9
volt rechargeable battery(gives about 35 usable minutes of flying time,
around 80mah), measure the length of one of the wire pushrods in your ship
and cut that much length off the receiver antenna and solder the end of the
antenna near the servo end of the pushrod. Saves a very significant amount of
weight in the tailboom which allows the CG to come out very nicely with the
small pack in the nose, and the S-80 servos "stacked" on top of each other
just behind the pack. It is possible to have a D-lite come out less than 9.5
ounces using these procedures(and a standard D less than 10.5).
It is the
only way I set up my ships. Flew my ship set up this way at the Nats this
year. I flew with groups of more than 20 ships in the air with me at the same
time without the slightest hint of a range or interference problem--if THAT
isn't a test, I don't know what is!!!(you can probably tell that I'm sold on
this trick!).
If you have any other questions, let us know, and THANKS for the
order---GREAT choice!!!
