The following question came from Bill Swingle

Are you familiar with the "Kokam 340 mAh Super High Discharge (20C / 90%)" cells? I notice that you don't sell them, which may be the answer to my question. I'm quite skeptical about the 20C claim but it's quite tempting.

I'm skeptical too. I heard about them and some high-rated 640 ? mah cells from Fred Marks at Toledo, who said they were supposed to be available in about 2 weeks from then, but then nothing after that. I talked with Dave Thacker last weekend. He didn't know anything about the big ones, but he had a few loose cells of the 340 mah ones. He's supposed to be sending us some to test.

Historically, at least from what I've seen in the past, Kokam's claimed specs seem to be significantly overrated. However, even if 20C turns out to be 8-10C, that's still an excellent cell for our purposes. However, at this point, until I actually put some in an airplane and get some air under its wheels, I really can't say anything one way or the other.

Am I missing something on the Plantraco chargers? Specifically, I'm referring to the charge rate settings labeled in maH??? It's a great little unit but I'm stumped about the charge rate labeling.

You set the charge rate for whatever the closest lower mah setting is to the mah rating of the cells. For example, for the 250 mah cells, set the charger for "200 mah", which will give you a 200 milliamp charge rate. On the 700 mah and 1200 mah cells we use the "400 mah" setting.

The one you really need to watch is the setting for number of cells. This charger has excellent error checking, and will catch most operator setup goofs. However, the voltage for a nearly charged 2-cell pack is almost the same as a fully discharged 3-cell pack. There is no way the charger can catch that error by itself. If you're going to burn down your house with this charger, that would be my guess as the most likely error to make. BE VERY SURE that you have the number of cells setting correct before pushing the start button!!!
