What throwing technique results in lower strain on the shoulder?
Hi
Less question, and more of comment and suggestion this time.
For launch techniques: I like what you describe, and have
tried it with good success. Much less strain (pain) on the
arm! My own variation is to be facing OPPOSITE of the
direction of launch with the plane in front of me. (For a
right hand launch) Take a step backwards on to the left foot
and begin pivoting the body. Follow through as you wrote,
and she goes flying off at a good pace.
I am currently using this technique on some small, almost mosquito class (30"- 32")planes. Specifically, the Pibros
(design acquired from the web), and the Aerofoam Noseeum.
Of course, I also bungee the crap out of both of these -
particularly the Pibros. The Noseeum flutters too easily
to get a REALLY good bungee shot from.
Another trick I am using is mixing the throttle stick into
the elevator, about 8% to 12%, as pitch trim. I use full
back as launch trim, and full forward for max speed gliding.
This really does give me speed control for various modes of
flight (Hunting, thermalling, crashing :-)
Full back has too much elevator for good gliding, but gives
a nice smooth pull up from launch to climb. As soon as the
nose comes up, you go forward on the throttle to unload for
the climb and set up for gliding.
Try it, you might just like it!
