The following question came from " )

It's not clear from the Roadkill instructions, but how do you retain the landing gear wheels (mine is a P-51) to the struts (both main gear and tailwheel)?

From : Don Stackhouse

You slip the wheel on to the axle, then bend over the tip of the wire axle. I've attached a photo of this operation on the Curtiss-Wright Junior, which is retained the same way. On struts like the Mustang's it helps to grip the strut very tightly with a big, heavy-duty pair of pliers right at the bend for the axle on the other side of the wheel while making the bend.

It appears to my aging eyes that the main gear struts (P-51, again) are fastened to the bass/spruce/whatever ribs using one of the screws in the bag containing the motor parts. Right?

Yes. We've also found through experience that it's also a good idea if you're planning to operate from rough surfaces such as concrete or asphalt to "box in" the strut on the other side of the screw with strips of leftover basswood stock from the lower skin leading edge. I've attached a picture of the gear attachment on my A6M2 Zero that uses this technique.
