The following question came from Marc Dickman pignolos@cs.com" )

Do you recommend any type of lubrication for the gears or bearing points for the Roadkill series motors? Would a light machine oil cause the plastice to deteriorate or attract grit?

From : Don Stackhouse

It's optional. I've run them dry, with light oil (such as sewing machine oil), and with some of Labelle's teflon grease. All seem to work OK. We generally use a drop of sewing machine oil on the threads of the propshaft screw to make it easier to screw into the big gear during assembly. Enough of that migrates around to provide lubrication to the bearings and the gear teeth.

In any case, keep the amount of oil to a minimum. It doesn't take much at all to lubricate things, and any more than that is likely to soak into the plywood mounting plate and deteriorate it.

If you do oil the gears, watch for dirt in the gears, although the RPM seems to be high enough to throw the worst of it off.
