The following question came from Joseph R. Chambers: "jrchambers@home.com" jrchambers@home.com )

Can the Road Kill series of models be painted?

and if so what paint do you recommend?? Any photos of painted models? Finally, what are the wing spans of the models??

From : Don Stackhouse

Weight on these models is EXTREMELY important, so any paint needs to be kept to an absolute minimum. One of the single engine models with a six-cell battery flies great at 2.8 ounces, OK at 3.0 ounces, and barely sustains flight at 3.2 ounces (although a seventh cell will help a little at that point). Permanent felt markers are excellent, with essentially negligible weight increase.

We've also had good results from pre-thinned airbrush acrylic paint, but wiped on. Paiints for airbrushing have extra-potent pigments for godd coverage when spraying, but by wiping them on with a just-damp paper towel or rag, it takes less paint than spraying them would require (which means much less weight). The F4U corsair in the photos on our website was colored this way. It did add a little weight, but not as much as conventional painting methods. Permanent felt markers would have been lighter, but less uniform. It was a good compromise.
