The following question came from (Saruwatari Toshiro)

Can I zoom launch a Monarch 2m using a winch with monofilament line?

Do you think it safe, strucutally, to zoom launch a Monarch 2m using a winch with monofilament line? I am the only one at the flying field using American type braided nylon line. All others use monofilament line on their sinch for F3B use.

From : Don Stackhouse

Theoretically it depends on the breaking strength of the monofilament. The wing has been static tested to 224 lbs. In actual practice I don't think you can get a 2-meter to those kinds of loads; with a span that short, the induced drag will limit the airspeed to a value too low to make that much lift. In any case, if your monofilament is similar to the stuff we use here in the U.S., it isn't as strong as the braided line we normally use. You should not have a problem with it.

PS Is the 2m Chrysalis ready?

I'm still busy drawing the instructions for it (we're using drawings instead of photos this time), and testing some final refinements to the tail structure. I've been hampered by a number of interruptions, but things seem to have finally settled down, so hopefully it won't take too much longer!
