The following question came from Todd Presley

What are the recommended batteries for a Wizard or Monarch CX?

Which battery supplier do you recommend and what size and configuration?

From : Don Stackhouse

Todd,

For 150 mah cells, Tower Hobbies is good, also Indy RC had some good prices last time I checked (which was a very long time ago unfortunately). I would suggest checking with your local club members, there's usually a few folks in every club who have searched out the best options in your area.

Although they're a bit small for a 4-servo model like the Wizard, on 2-servo models like the Monarch 'D' we've been using 80 mah packs that are quite cheap and available. Just buy two "Eveready" brand 9-volt rechargeable batteries, cut them open, and find six 80 mah cells inside each. Pop the bottom four cells off of each stack, solder on the pigtail (VERY carefully) and encase the pack in shrink tubing. The two pairs of remaining cells on the 9-v batteries can be joined to make a third 4-cell pack. It doesn't get much cheaper than that. Just don't buy the Radio Shack 9-v rechargeable batteries, the cells on those are potted together. I don't know about the other brands.

The nose of all of the Monarch series models including the Wizard is set up for flat packs up to 270 mah max. For the best performance in a contest situation, where tasks are relatively short, we recommend going with a small pack to minimize weight. For sport flying where you're planning to stay up for a while, or in windy conditions where you would use ballast anyway, use a larger pack. If you switch between different sizes with the same model, make sure you have the C/G correct with each different pack. If you're using the larger pack as ballast in a windy situation, and the compartment under the wing is available, put the larger pack in there (on the C/G) and leave the small battery pack sitting idle in the nose. This way you can switch between the two without re-balancing.
