The following question came from Dave Anderson

Wizard Dihedral?

Have you ever tried a flat hlg wing? Would it be hard to fly? I know it works for 60" slope racing.

From : Don Stackhouse

We've found that dihedral actually improves performance in thermal turns on HLG's. I'll spare you the mathematics behind it, but Mother Nature has apparently discovered the same thing. Most of the soaring birds that are noted for low altitude flatland thermal soaring, such as the Prairie Falcon and Turkey Vulture use lots of dihedral. It's not for stability in their case, they already have the ultimate form of "fly-by-wire".

In addition, thermal soarers must be well behaved enough to fly consistently when the model is near the limits of the pilot's vision, something that is usually not a requirement for 60" slope racers. Any penalties due to the dihedral in straight and level flight are insignificant compared to the benefits in the other areas of the Wizard's operating environment.
