The following question came from Bill Kuhl pignolos@cs.com" )

Just completed a Wizard Lite hand launch except for the gap seal tape on the ailerons. The instructions are very brief, any recommendations on installing the tape so as not to bind the flaperons, have CS-10's in the wing.

From : Don Stackhouse

If you set up the linkages per the plans, the CS-10's should be fine.

My favorite gap seals for the Wizard are homemade from Scotch tape. They aren't quite as durable as the ones we put in the kit, but they're cheap, light, and easy to make and to replace. They also don't put much load on the servo.

Find a smooth cutting board that's a bit longer than the length of the flaperons. Lay two pieces of tape (3M600, 1/2" wide will do just fine) as long as the wing panels, sticky-side-up, side-by-side on the surface. Tape their ends down at one end, then stretch them out so they're lying exactly edge-to-edge, and tape their other ends to the board. The tapes should be snug, with no slack in them, but not stretched enough that they're under tension.

Now CAREFULLY lay third piece of tape, sticky-side-down, along the edge between the first two tapes, so that half of its width is on one tape and the other half on the other tape. Cut with an X-acto #11 or razor blade along the edge between the two tapes. You now have two gap seals with one half sticky on one side to attach to the underside of the wing, and the other half non-sticky to act as the wiper to seal the gap.

Carefully cut them free from the board at the ends, lay them in position on the hinge gaps, rub them down and trim the ends to the correct length. You may need to deflect the flaperon up about 1/2" and rub along the leading edge of the hinge slot to put enough bend in the tape to keep it in contact with the underside of the flaperon.

These are lighter and aerodynamically cleaner than the seals in the kit, but (depending on your landing area's surface qualities) they may get dilapidated part way through a flying season. If so, just peel them off and make some new ones.
