Miniature Power System - 1 motor - Revision A (MPS-1A) |
Motor / Gearbox / Propeller assembly |
| This great little motor assembly is used to power the DJ Aerotech "Roadkill" series
of Indoor / Backyard Fliers. If you fancy yourself a aircraft designer and want a cheap but powerful little motor, look no further.
It comes complete with gear reduction and propeller.
The MPS-1A uses a different frame design that holds the front end of the motor more securely and precisely for better gear mesh and
reliability, a propshaft gear that's bored on new improved tooling for better concentricity and mesh (resulting in improved noise,
life and efficiency), and uses a modified GWS 5-4.3 prop instead of the Gunther props we used on the old MPS-1. This new design
also allows us to offer other prop options, such as a modified GWS 6-5 for higher altitude operations. The MPS-1A is standard on
our new RK series models, and the older RK series models are available with it as well. The total weight of the motor and prop is 0.34 oz / 10 gr.

2 and 3 CELL LI-POLY Battery Packs |

|
2 and 3 cell - Li-Poly battery packs!
300mah - 800mah - 1200mah
|
These are the BEST battery pack that can be found for Roadkill
kits---2 and 3 cell (Polyquest), Li-Poly packs.
NEW! "Twenty": Best Lipo pack you can buy for any electric model - and - can you believe the LOW PRICES?
Best? All "Twenty" brand lipoly packs can be discharged at a rate 20 times their capacity. Example: the 1200 mAh (1.2 Amp hour) pack can be discharged at 24 amps continuous. This is NOT the peak discharge rate; it is the rate that these packs can be discharged at CONTINUOUSLY.
Poly Quest "Twenty" packs (800 and 1200mah) have a connector that plugs into the PCM Guards (sold separately). The PCM (Protective Circuit Module) Guards prevent you from destroying your battery by accidental overcharging. Overcharging can ruin your battery and cause a fire.
"Twenty's" unique welding process allows packs to put out more power, and the packs have better between-cell ventilation which gives longer pack life.
The 300mah 2 Cell Li-Poly pack is PERFECT for any single motor (MPS-1A or MPS-1) motored Roadkill kit. (Not for use on the Ryan ST
since it uses the MPS-2A motor.) The 300mah Li-Poly battery yields ~10% LESS power than the standard 120mah NIMH
battery pack with a weight savings of 15 grams (.5 ounces). That is 1/2 of what the 120mah NIMH battery pack weighed.
The running time is more than 3 times of what the NIMH battery can produce. Instead of the normal 7 - 10 minute run
times you should be able to stay aloft 21 to 30 minutes or more.
The 300mah 3 cell It is used with any of our multi-motor kits (except the B-17), including the
twin motor aircraft kits AND the MPS-2A motor system. It offers an insane increase in power with little weight increase
from the 2 cell pack. The throttle position required to maintain cruise speed with this pack is much
lower than the 2 cell pack, therefore flight times are similar at cruise. Some reduction in motor(s) life may occur
if this pack is used with a sustained, high power flight condition, however. The amperage carrying
capabilities of this pack are the same as the 2 cell 300 pack.
The 800mah 2 Cell Li-Poly pack is PERFECT for any twin motor or (MPS-2A) motored Roadkill kit. The 800mah Li-Poly battery yields
~50% GREATER power than the standard 230mah NIMH battery pack with a weight savings of 2.5 grams (.1 ounces).
The running time is more than 4 times of what the NIMH battery can produce. Again, you should easily reach flight times
of 35 minutes or more. (That's "SPORT" flying, not "Economy cruise"!)
The 800mah 3 cell This pack is intended for use with any of our twin motor aircraft, as well
as our MPS-2A twin motor system. It is NOT intended for use with any of our single motor systems (MPS-1(A)), as
motor life can be measured in seconds. It offers a very lightweight, high energy battery for another level of
performance.
The 1200mah 2 Cell Li-Poly battery yields ~20% GREATER power than the standard 600mah NIMH battery pack used on the prototype RK
B-17F model. The running time is more than twice that of the NIMH battery.
The 1200mah 3 cell This pack also offers an incredible increase in power over the 2 cell pack.
It is designed for use with our B-17 kit. It is about the same weight as the 600 mah 6 cell nimh pack we sell for that model, but with huge increase in
flight times and horsepower. This would make it an excellent choice for outdoor flying of the B-17.
The amperage carrying capabilities of this pack are the same as the 2 cell 1200 pack.
Important! The Li-Poly battery packs MUST be charged with charger designed to charge a Li-Poly
battery pack. (For example: The Plantranco LPC-400) Failure to do so could result with the battery pack (basement / garage etc...)
catching fire. Also make sure your ESC is compatible with a Li-poly pack, in particular that the cutoff voltage is correct. The Castle
Creations Pixie 7-P is our preferred choice for this.

LiPoly Smart Balancer and Charge Guard |
|
2-5 Cell LiPoly Smart Balancer and Charge Guard for "TWENTY" LIPO Packs Replaces the "PCM GUARD" |
NEW! Protect your "Twenty" & "Hi-Po" packs from dangerous overcharging
3" x 1-7/8" x 1/2". Keep your valuable Poly-Quest "Twenty" Lithium Polymer packs in balance for better performance and longer service life. Unit comes with adapters for 2, 3, and 4 cell Poly-Quest "Twenty" packs and can be used with 5 cell packs without an adapter. Smart Balancer and Guard does double duty: it can balance the voltage within a pack and it can guard against an over voltage condition during charging. Plug in your 2-5 cell Poly-Quest "Twenty" battery and the microprocessor-controlled unit will balance all of the cells in the pack automatically. 5 red LED’s show which cells are being balanced. When all of the red LED’s are out and the green Err/Check LED is lit, the battery is in balance. The guard function of the unit protects against overcharging your LiPoly packs while simultaneously balancing them. Charge your packs at up to 3 amps through the Balancer/Guard for extra safety. The unit will disconnect the battery from the charger if it detects an overcharge condition on any cell or if the input voltage exceeds 22V.

| Battery Quick Release Mount |
 |
|
|
DJ Aerotech Quick release Mounting Kit |
The kit contents are as follows: two screws, a plate to glue to the battery, and a pair of ply "hard points".
The ply hard points are for when you are mounting to a balsa surface, such as under the wing of the Ryan, or the aft
screw on the Cub. You don't need the hard point if the surface already is ply, such as the forward screw on the Cub. The
battery plate can be split in two and the halves spread apart to fit a longer battery like the 700 mah pack.
To remove a battery, just loosen the screws 1/2 turn each and slip the battery off through the slotted holes in the
mounting plate. To install, as the story goes, just reverse the removal process.

| APACHE SMART Lithium Polymer |
 |
Battery Charger |
Lithium Polymer in RC is a recent advance, and a very promising one.
One of the restraints to wider adoption, however, has been the poor reliability of charging systems. But the technology
for safe charging of these cells has just taken a major step forward - with the introduction of these new chargers from
Apache, in association with E-Tec.
Other charger manufacturers have developed fully automatic detection for cell count to set charge voltage, but none of
these systems have proven reliable. The result in many cases has been destroyed batteries, which is both costly and unsafe.
Apache looked at this problem and determined that the best possible system was a combination of manual setting by the
user, plus an extremely sophisticated detection routine to check the voltage setting before charging begins. Using
jumpers to set voltage and charge rate also insures that settings do not change inadvertently, as they can with
chargers using rotary dials or software systems.
We believe that the Apache SMART Charger line are the safest on the market today. In a recent test of the safety
detection circuit they contain, more than 1000 improper combinations of battery and jumper settings were connected,
and the chargers were 100% accurate in detecting these errors - emitting a warning tone and refusing to charge in
each case. Human error is much more likely than charger error, and the Apache oversight circuit is highly recommended
insurance for that rare case when your attention might wander for a moment.

|
Charging Instructions |
You must set the charger to match the number of cells connected in
SERIES in your battery pack. Polyquest battery packs come in 2-cell and 3-cell series configurations, for example. BEFORE
you attach your battery pack to the charger, be sure to set the number of cells (voltage) and charging rate to match
your battery pack. This is accomplished with the jumper blocks on the side of the charger, as pictured above.
For example, a custom pack of 2 cells in series that is then connected in parallel with another 2 cells in series
(a total of 4 cells, designated a "2S2P" pack) would be charged at the 2-cell setting, marked "2 cell 7.4V"
(the actual charge voltage would be 8.4V).
Once the voltage has been determined, set the charge rate to match the rated capacity of the pack.
Now, connect the charger clips labeled “INPUT” to a DC power source of 12.0 to 13.8 volts. This may be an
automobile battery, or an AC/DC power supply of at least 5A output. DO NOT use an automobile battery charger!
Make sure the red clip is connected to positive (plus), black clip to negative (minus). Connect the Lithium
Polymer battery to the connector provided (marked “Battery”).

CAUTIONS |
- These chargers are for lithium polymer battery charging only –
they may NOT be used for NiCd, NiMH, Lead-Acid, or other types of batteries.
- The MAXIMUM charge rate for Lithium Polymer cells is 1C (ex: 250mA for the ET-0250 cell).
- Do not charge your lithium polymer cells at any rate higher than 1C.
- Do not disassemble the charger, remove from case, or attempt repair of any kind.
- Do not exceed 13.8V on input voltage to charger.
- Keep the charger dry. Do not use the charger if wet.
|
SAFETY |
Lithium Polymer cells are a tremendous advance in battery technology for RC flight. However, due to the chemistry of
lithium cells, there is a possibility of fire if charging is not properly done. It is unavoidable due to the nature
of lithium itself. This is no different from many things we use in daily life – knives, kitchen cleaners, automobiles,
for a few examples – which are inherently dangerous, but which can be used very safely by adhering to simple rules and
precautions.
Both E-Tec batteries and SMART chargers have been designed and manufactured using great care to provide the highest
level of safety possible utilizing current technology. While SMART chargers are the safest on the market today, it
remains well to note the simple cautions below to further minimize the chance of accident.
- Be absolutely sure that both voltage and current settings are correct for the battery pack being charged
- Care should be taken to charge on a fireproof surface, such as a platform of bricks
- Do not charge batteries near flammable items or liquids
- Keep a dry fire extinguisher nearby, or a large bucket of dry sand, which is a cheap and effective extinguisher
- Do not charge inside an automobile, especially while driving
- Charge in a well-ventilated room, or outside if possible
- Batteries should NEVER be left unattended while charging
- Keep charger and batteries away from children and pets at all times
If, after reading this manual, you have any concerns about the safety of lithium polymer batteries and/or Smart Charger,
please return the products immediately - without using them - for a full refund.

| SIRIUS 200 |
 |
Battery Charger |
The Sirius 200 is designed with the small battery pack in mind. This charger is perfect
for charging the small battery packs used in the DJ Aerotech Roadkill models. It will equally do the job for any standard pack.
Now, you can safely and reliably fast charge small receiver batteries. (NiCd or NIMH)
The SIRIUS CHARGE 200 provides a precision regulated 200mA of charge current. This means you can fully charge a 120mAh
receiver pack (from completely empty) in about an hour, or a 50mAh pack in about 30 minutes. Remember: partially
charged batteries will take less time, and you can charge as often as you like without fear of damage or memory buildup.
Most NiCd batteries will peak charge to about 1.6 volts per cell. For a 4-cell pack, this translates to about 6.4 volts
as it nears the end of the charge cycle. SIRIUS CHARGE 200 has been specially designed to require only 1.1 volts of
overhead (source voltage minus destination voltage equals overhead). Therefore,
