![[ROADKILL WORLD WAR II SERIES DOUGLAS C-47 SKYTRAIN]](roadkill_ww2_img/rk_skytrain.jpg) |
And why did we call them ROADKILL???? They are just plain flat! ;-)
Designed in 1935, there were more than 13,000 DC-3's built. American Airways first used the new Douglas DC-3 in 1935 and not
long after, the U.S. Military started purchasing DC-3's as transport aircraft. Many are still flying today and
may well be the finest plane in the history of aviation.
The next addition to the RK series is a 36" rendition of the classic Douglas C-47. The kit also includes
the parts for the DC-3 civilian version. The DC-3 posted on our website is in the colors of the one my father flew,
and in which I got my first "stick time" in an airplane at the tender age of five. The full-scale DC-3 was gently
enough for a 5-year-old, and the RK DC-3 is also extremely gentle and stable. However, it's surprisingly fast,
with a top speed even faster than our P-38, and a very efficient wing that allows it to cruise very comfortably
on about 40% throttle. I've flown the C-47 successfully in a high school
basketball gym, but it's probably best for outdoors and for larger flying areas. It's very smooth, very stable, and flies in an
extremely scale-like manner.
The C-47 retracted wheels stick rather prominently out of the underside of the nacelles, included in the kits are
some dummy partial wheels to simulate that. These are made from plywood, and stick down far enough to act
as skids to protect the oil cooler scoops during belly landings.

| IMPORTANT BATTERY INFORMATION |
We are receiving numerous E-mails related to problems flying our Roadkill kits. In every case it is an weight issue
related to using a battery pack too large for the kit. We can't STRESS enough the proper sized battery pack should be used in all
the Roadkill kits. Larger packs WILL yield undesirable flight characteristics. For each of our Roadkill models we post a recommended
NiMH or LI-Poly battery size. These batteries packs have been extensively tested and proven to provide a flyable model based on the
stock motor configuration.
The Li-Poly battery packs MUST be charged with a charger designed to charge Li-Poly battery packs.
(For example: The Apache LiPoly Charger) Failure to do so could result with the battery pack (basement / garage etc...)
catching fire. Also make sure your ESC is compatible with a Li-poly pack, in particular that the cutoff voltage is correct.
The Castle Creations Pixie 7-P is our preferred choice for this.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... If you have any questions at all about what is the best battery for your model, don't hesitate to send an
e-mail to Joe or Don.
